Percepto OGI video analysis

Introduction

Percepto provides special drones & landscape robotics for autonomous inspection missions.
The enterprise product is designated for heavy industry & energy infrastructures monitoring
(Solar & fuel farms, mining sites, assembly lines, and more).
The SaaS platform allows site & mission planning and data streaming for analysis & anomaly reporting.

OGI (Optical Gas Imaging) is an emerging inspection vertical in the western energy industry.
In the U.S market, regulation regarding energy efficiency became significantly tightened in recent periods. Companies engaged with gas production or maintenance can face substantial fines if gas leaks are detected during authorities inspection.
Percepto recognized that business opportunity. Along with robotic inspection capabilities, the opportunity was heavily relied on Percpeto's Insights team performance. This team is responsible for reviewing and analyzing data, as well as generating reports.

The challenge from user perspective:
"I want to analyze & create video based reports more easily and save time to be more productive״.

Pain points:

> OGI analysis is mainly done by reviewing video recordings. Analysts often found themselves wasting time, energy & productivity while staring at the screen for a long time to detect any insight if at all.

> Video review was done using the naked eye, meaning that leaks and anomalies could be easily missed if the analyst is not focused.
Target users:
Phase #1: Feature original design

The original video inspection feature allowed analysts to create and share videos combined with bookmarks. The analysts reviewed the video and pinned bookmarks whenever they saw a suspected insight.

Phase #2: Video segmentation

UX journey research: The GEM sensor story
Me & the squad PM joined a video meeting with a drone operator that was working in a client site, as
we wanted to understand better the inspection and data cultivation process in big infrastructures.
During the call we noticed how the operator turns on the camera gas sensor (GEM) only when the drone entered a static position above a certain assets. The reason is when drone flies & changes it's location while the GEM sensor is on, the video footage gets disrupted.
The conclusion - GEM sensor is turned on only above designated assets in which gas leak can occur - meaning that the insights team don't need to keep looking randomly for gas leaks along an entire video recording. We can indicate when the GEM sensor was turned on upon the video timeline so that leaks can be searched only along the segmentations!
